13 weeks!

Goodbye first trimester! Hello being able to eat again! haha I just had my doctors appointment yesterday and things are going great! I have bought a few items from garage sales though I'm trying really hard to hold off. I just can't pass up the good deals!

How far along: 13 weeks!
Gender: At my appointment yesterday the doctor guessed but he said he was only 55% sure so we are going back in 3 weeks to hopefully find out. Normally I would go in again in four weeks but since I'm dying to know what the baby is he is letting me come in early haha. Once we know, we will do some kind of reveal picture.
Weight gain: None yet, the doc said that's great because soon I won't be able to stop gaining...eek.
Maternity clothes: Have a few things waiting for when I need them
Stretch marks: Nope
Belly button in or out: In obviously
Sleep: Sleeping well. Still having weird dreams.
Best moment this week: My doctors appointment! It was really cool seeing how much bigger baby is getting. Even got to see him/her in 3D for a minute while the doctor with trying to look at the parts. So fun!
Worst moment this week: Nothing bad really, annoyed that my baby book I ordered from Target is still not here over two weeks after I ordered it though.
Miss anything: Apfelwein and German beer. Wishing I could go to Oktoberfest back home.
Movement: Not yet!
Cravings: Blt sandwiches!
Aversions: Red meat still doesn't sound too great but I can eat a lot more now. I had a meatball sub the other day. I'm still eating what sounds good but it's been getting a lot easier.
Queasy or sick: Not really much this week.
Looking forward to: Finding out if it's a boy or a girl! And starting to get a bump. The doctor said I might not show much until like 18 weeks.
Here's the little alien! Haha

12 Weeks!

So I still don't have a baby bump. I'd post a picture but there's seriously nothing to see haha. I promise to post one as soon as I have a bump! The biggest change over the past few weeks is that I'm starting to feel better more consistently. There are less and less days that I feel queasy and find it hard to eat. Hopefully soon those days will be completely over!

How far along: 12 weeks
Gender: Can't wait to find out! Hoping the doctor can guess at my appointment next week.  I just want to be able to buy cute things haha
Weight gain: none yet
Maternity clothes: none yet
Stretch marks: nope
Belly button in or out: In obviously
Sleep: Sleeping well. Still having weird dreams.
Best moment this week: Not being very nauseous. And reaching 12 weeks.
Worst moment this week: Every morning when the dog cries wanting to get up at 7:30am.
Miss anything: Apfelwein and german beer. And being able to eat whatever I want whenever I want.
Movement: not yet!
Cravings: nothing too specific, still just eating whatever sounds good at the time
Aversions: chicken, and most meats really
Queasy or sick: Not really much this week. Every now and then I'll feel gross for a few minutes.
Looking forward to: My appointment next week and eventually finding out if it's a girl or boy!

Dogs vs. Babies

Or how my dogs are preparing me for having a baby.

They are both super cute, most of the time. Much like babies.

Chloe likes to bark at me to get my attention. All. The. Time. (she's doing it as we speak) Very similar to a baby crying I imagine. Or at least also very loud and annoying.

They both like to play with toys that make noise. All of the squeaky dog toys are purposefully hidden at the moment.

I have to clean up their poop. Enough said.

Their food makes me gag. (heightened sense of smell and nausea don't mix) Baby food is also gross but at least I won't be nauseous by the time I am around that stuff.

They also both like to cuddle or be held or lay in my lap.

Hmm. Maybe I'll be well prepared.

Finding Out

So I found out I was pregnant back at the beginning of July. Right before Independence Day actually. Kind of changed my plans for that weekend haha.

It was a random day during the week and I had been feeling kind of weird and some amplified pms symptoms that seemed a little weird for me. I decided to go buy a pregnancy test. Now, Jay had just told me the night before when I mentioned it that I was forbidden to buy a pregnancy test until at least two weeks after I miss my period because they are expensive haha. But I did anyway of course. So while he was at work I got one and sure enough, two pink lines.

Before I took the test I remember thinking "I doubt I'm pregnant I'm probably just over-thinking it, but I wonder how I will tell Jay if I am..."

Then I took the test and I was so surprised by the results that I immediately messaged Jay

"oh my god"

"what" he said

(don't mind the "water" haha)

"that"

to which he immediately replied "for real, i told you not to buy that"

HAHA

Followed by something like "better start working out more to get some testosterone in that thing"

I don't think it works like that hahaha.

But of course he was excited, I think I just caught him off guard. I should have waited and surprised him in a cute way but I think it was still cute when he said that.

I confirmed the results with another test in the morning and then went and got a blood test at the clinic, since that's what you have to do to get the referral to see a ob-gyn here.

We are super excited!

Big News!

So I know it has been awhile since I have blogged but there is a very exciting reason for it! We are expecting our first baby in March! We are very excited!! We just told the family this past weekend and I am so relieved that everyone finally knows.

We haven't been traveling or doing much the past month and a half because I haven't felt the best for a few weeks. I will continue to blog about any traveling adventures we do take but obviously I will also be blogging about the pregnancy! I'm super excited for bump photos but I don't have any yet. I mostly just feel bloated and gross haha so there won't be a picture until there is something to see. But I do have this

That is the official announcement that our family and friends have already seen but I also made this one with the dogs just for fun.

Anyway here's some fun facts:

How far along: 9.5 weeks
Gender: Can't wait to find out!
Weight gain: -1
Maternity clothes: none yet, but a lot of leggings and gym shorts because I feel so bloated
Stretch marks: No
Belly button in or out: In
Sleep: Sleeping well in between trips to the bathroom, at least once a night. Crazy dreams though!
Best moment this week: Being slightly less nauseous
Worst moment this week: My lower back hurts a lot, the doctor said it's normal and probably a good sign, still sucks though
Miss anything: Apfelwein and german beer. And blue cheese.
Movement: not yet! though he/she did move at our ultrasound last week.
Cravings: nothing yet that I have noticed, I mostly just buy whatever sounds good since the list really isn't very long
Aversions: Ground beef sounds disgusting and so does most pop, except an occasional sprite.
Queasy or sick: Queasy on and off. Haven't thrown up though.
Looking forward to: My next appointment at the end of the month! And getting a bump.

Festivals to Attend: Wilhelmstraßenfest!

Wilhelmstraßenfest is held annually on the second weekend in June in Wiesbaden, Germany. It is located on Wilhelmstraße and surrounds the Hessian State Theater. First started in 1977 to honor the reopening of the theater, it is now one of the largest street festivals in Germany! We were fortunate enough to attend the festival this year and we had a blast!

There are plenty of rides for the little ones and food and drink stands as far as you can see! We had bratwursts, thai food, and of course BIER! There was also a lot of strawberry and fruit infused prosecco which was yummy!

It was packed! So unfortunately these people ended up in my shots of the decorations haha.

There was a ferris wheel in front of the kurhaus as well! along with over 100 craft vendors!

There were at least 4 or 5 stages where bands were playing continuously. We stopped and watched for a couple of hours. Flo & Chris was the cover band playing and they were amazing! Very entertaining, I would definitely watch another one of their shows!

Here's us being silly. We had so much fun! We wish we had known it was such a big event and can't wait to go back next year!

Travel To: Cologne, Germany

If you're in Germany and haven't been to Cologne yet, don't wait any longer! We went there last weekend to see the Dom Cathedral and it was amazing!! The first thing you see when driving into Cologne is the cathedral which towers over the whole city.

It really is hard to believe how big the cathedral is until you see it in person. The architecture and detailing is absolutely beautiful! After doing a little research I found out it actually took 600 years for it to be built! Like many attractions in Europe, parts of it are under scaffolding.

The inside of the cathedral is just as impressive as the outside! There is a lot to see inside the cathedral with several alters and art work. The windows are all massive beautiful stained glass scenes. It really takes your breath away. Someone told us you can walk up into the spire somehow but we didn't see that anywhere but there are also things to see in the basement. The cathedral still holds services daily and there was a small service on one side of the building going on when we were there.

Another great thing about Cologne is that it is also located along the Rhein River. The river is lined with parks where you can sit and enjoy the weather or just go for a walk. There is also a really cool water fountain area where your kids (or dog in our case) can cool off. I wish I had taken a picture of the fountain area but you'll know what I am talking about when you see it.  Here is a view of the river.

Cologne also is known for it's very own type of beer called Kölsch. We tried it and we LOVED it! We couldn't wait until dinner to try it so we bought some for only 1,50 Euro from a small convenient store type of place.

But it wouldn't be a trip to Cologne without a stop at a local brauhaus for dinner, where we also drank Kölsch and ate some amazing German food.

We spent most of our time in Cologne walking around "old town" and visiting the cathedral, but Cologne is also known for it's shopping! There is a TON of shopping to do if that's what your there for, especially designer things. There's a Louis Vuitton right next to the cathedral!

Here's a picture of us enjoying our day! Have any of you been to Cologne? What was your favorite part of the city?
